Day 01 Hohhot (D)
Arrive in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Meet your tour guide at the airport or railway station and transfer to the four-star Hohhot Holiday Inn Hotel or similar. Rest of today is free.
Day 02 Hohhot / Baotou (B, L, D)
After breakfast, you are escorted to visit the Five Pagoda Temple in Hohhot. Originally built in ancient Indian style, Five Pagoda Temple is one of the only remaining parts of the Ci Deng Temple compound located in the Old City of Hohhot. More than 1,560 relief sculptures of Buddha are engraved on the five pagodas. Then move on to Inner Mongolia Museum. With a collection of 44,000 objects, the museum displays the unique ethnic history of Northern Tribes. Afternoon program takes you to Dazhao Monastery, the largest and most famous Tibetan Buddhism shrine in Hohhot. It boasts a large collection of religious and cultural relics, among which the silver statue of Buddha, dragon sculpture and frescos are the most cherished treasures. Drive 2 hours to Baotou, check into Baotou Shenhua International Hotel or similar and rest.
Day 03 Baotou / Hohhot (B, L, D)
The morning’s highlight is the visit to Resonant Sand Gorge located 50 kilometers south of Baotou city proper. Backed by the Kubuqi Desert, the dunes assume a crescent shape with a height of 110 meters and gradient of 45 degrees. It’s named after the echoing “Shhhh” that the sand makes as you step on the surface. You can choose the optional activities including camel riding, parasailing, sliding the dunes, etc. In the afternoon, continue to visit Wudangzhao Lamasery. With the history of 250 years, this Lamasery is the largest well-preserved Tibetan-style construction in Inner Mongolia. The type of Buddhism practiced at the Wudangzhao Lamasery is Yellow Hat Sect which is also known as Gelukpa. Drive back to Hohhot and rest.
Day 04 Hohhot (B)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport or railway station for your departure flight or train. Service ends.
