And you will enjoy the fabulous grassland and sand scenery as well as Genghis khan’s Mausoleum in Inner Mongolia.
Day 01 Hohhot (D)
Arrive in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Meet your tour guide at the airport or railway station and transfer to the four-star Hohhot Holiday Inn Hotel or similar. Rest of today is free.
Day 02 Hohhot / Xilamuren Grassland (B, L, D)
Xilamuren GrasslandAfter breakfast, take 2 hours morning scenic drive from Hohhot to Xilamuren Grassland. The word of Xilamuren means Yellow Water in Mongolian. Every year from July through August, the traditional Mongolian Naadam Festival is held at the grassland. It’s also time when family and friends gather together to celebrate the short and joyful summer season. Here you enjoy the celebrations and traditions surrounding the thrilling athletic events of the Naadam, including the horse racing, wrestling and archery contests. As well you are accompanied to visit to local herdsmen’s family. Sample local flavors and snacks like milk tea, finger mutton, roast lamb, cheese, followed by the wonderful Mongolian Singing and Dancing Show. Stay overnight at local well-furnished Mongolian yurt.
Day 03 Xilamuren Grassland / Ordos (B, L, D)
Resonant Sand GorgeTake an early wake-up to enjoy the sunrise at grassland. After breakfast, transfer to Ordos. On the halfway, continue the sightseeing to Resonant Sand Gorge. Backed by the Kubuqi Desert, the dunes assume a crescent shape with a height of 110 meters and gradient of 45 degrees. It’s named after the echoing “Shhhh” that the sand makes as you step on the surface. You can choose the optional activities including camel riding, parasailing, sliding the dunes, etc. Check in Ordos Holiday Inn Hotel and rest.
Day 04 Ordos / Hohhot (B, L, D)
In the morning, drive 1 hour to visit the Genghis khan’s Mausoleum. Genghis Khan is the national hero of Mongolia and his Mausoleum is “the mystery of mysteries”. The present mausoleum is a cenotaph, and the real one with his remains is still undiscovered. However there are thousands of tourists come to the mausoleum and hold a memorial ceremony for the hero. Covering an area of 5 hectares, the main structures of the mausoleum are three grand halls in the shape of Mongolian yurt, which are linked by a corridor. In the afternoon, transfer back to Hohhot and rest.
Day 05 Hohhot (B, L, D)
Five Pagoda TempleAfter breakfast, you are escorted to visit the Five Pagoda Temple in Hohhot. Originally built in ancient Indian style, Five Pagoda Temple is one of the only remaining parts of the Ci Deng Temple compound located in the Old City of Hohhot. More than 1,560 relief sculptures of Buddha are engraved on the five pagodas. Then move on to Dazhao Monastery, the largest and most famous Tibetan Buddhism shrine in Hohhot. It boasts a large collection of religious and cultural relics, among which the silver statue of Buddha, dragon sculpture and frescos are the most cherished treasures. In the afternoon pay a visit to Zhaojun Tomb. Located about 8km to the south of Hohhot, Zhaojun Tomb is said to be the resting place of Wang Zhaojun, the lady of honor in the Han Dynasty. It has become a symbol of national unity and one of the eight historical scenic spots in Hohhot.
Day 06 Hohhot (B)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport or railway station for your departure flight or train. Service ends.
