Unlike the metropolitan city of Shanghai, Hangzhou is a leisure city. When night falls, Hangzhou is beautifully lit, resembling a real paradise. There are many things to do in the evening.
1. Stroll along any portion of the West Lake shore or along Bai Causeway
Walking around West Lake in the evening is a good way to rewind yourself or keep you nostalgic. The distant views of Gushan, Baoshu Pagoda or Leifeng Pagoda offers you much for thought. If lucky enough, you will see the music fountain gushing into the sky from the lake.
2. Sip your drink at the Nanshan Road & Hubin Road bars and clubs
Nanshan Road and Hubin Road is a famous nightlife strip in Hangzhou, a hangout for both expats and locals. Just name some bars and clubs – Absolute House, Starbucks, the Touch Club, Channel, Kana’s Bar, Night & Day, Paradise Rock…
3. Tea House
Local people have long been well known for their heathy habit of drinking green tea. All kinds of tea houses are dotted here and there. Some of the teahouses are very big with 2, 3 or more layers. Next to the beautiful Wu Mountain scenic spot is located the Chenghuang Teahouse, a classical building with five floors. There while sipping a cup of tea and tasting local small snack, you can enjoy the night view of Wu Hill and Chenghuang Pavilion. Another elegant teahouse worth going is Qingteng Teahouse, next to Hubin Park. This is a ideal site for friends to hang out and drink tea and for visitors to taste the real Longjing tea and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the West Lake.
4. West Lake Night Cruise
You may take a brightly-painted pleasure-boat, or rent a self-drive boat to take the West Lake Cruise at night. Taking the pleasure-boat, you will see the beautiful views of Bai Causeway, Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake, Su Causeway, Three Pools Mirroring the Moon, and Orioles Singing in the Willows. For self-drive boats, they are suitbale for lovers.
5. Grand open-air show – Impression West Lake
Impression West Lake is a spectacle of light, music, dance and theatrics. It is performanced on the Yue Lake, a part of West Lake, just in front of Yue Fei Temple. The story is based on a Hangzhou legend – White Snake ( Chinese version of Romeo and Julian ). Using the lake and its surroundings as background, lights and hundreds of actors create a sensational performance. Impression West Lake is certainly not to be missed.
6. The Romance of the Song Dynasty
The Song Dynasty ruled China from 1127 to 1279, and moved its capital to Hangzhou in 1129. The Song Dynasty Town is built in Hangzhou to represent the past Dynasty. From 7:30 to 8:30pm everyd ay at the Song Dynasty City Theatre, a Song Dynasty Evening Show is performanced, called “The Romance of the Song Dynasty”. It eulogizes the Hangzhou history by the form of singing , dancing and acrobatics etc.
