Located in the center of Jinan, Daming Lake is one of the city’s most important natural and cultural landmarks. Every evening, old and young alike come out to stroll along the banks of the lake under the shade of willow trees. The lake is surrounded by a number of traditional Chinese structures such as bridges and pavilions, and is also famous for its many lotus blossoms, which bloom in the summer. Climb the Chaoran Tower on the eastern end of the lake for a sweeping view of the entire city. On perfect summer evenings, Daming Lake plays host to a spectacular water and light show that celebrates the history and culture of Jinan and Shandong. If you get the chance in great weather, you may see groups of retirees gather to practice singing, dancing and Tai Chi.
