Then visit the Dali Ancient City. The Ancient City faces Erhai Lake to the east and Cangshan Mountain to the west. The gate tower of the City is grand and the sights here are beautiful. Dali is a magnificent ancient city with a perimeter of 6 kilometers. Its former city wall is 7.5 meters high and 6 meters thick.

Sightseeing and Activities: Erhai Lake, Butterfly Spring, the Three-pagodas in Chongshen Temple

In the morning, go to visit Erhai Lake, which is the largest highland lake next to Dianchi and one of the seven biggest fresh water lakes in China. It means, ‘sea shaped like an ear’, in Chinese. Implying that the lake is ear shaped and as large as a sea, hence the name. The lake covers an area of 250 square kilometers and is located about two kilometers east of Dali.
Then head to Butterfly Spring, a popular beauty spot. Situated at the foot of Mount Shenmo, the first of the peaks of Mount Cangshan, Butterfly Spring rises to form a square shaped pool that is shaded by the dense foliage lining its banks. Above it there is an ancient decumbent tree. This is the famous ‘Butterfly Tree’, so called as in the short interval as spring turns to summer, its fragrant blossom attracts thousands of butterflies. These small multi-colored creatures fly around the pool and settle on the tree in great clusters as they sip the nectar from its blooms. The vast numbers of butterflies are hardly distinguishable from the flowers as the whole tree pulsates with every color of the rainbow.
Finally you will see the Three-pagodas in Chongshen Temple. It is a symbol of the history of Dali City, and a record of the development of Buddhism in the area. As its name implies, Three Pagodas are made of three ancient independent pagodas forming a symmetrical triangle. This is unique in China.

Head to Xizhou Old Town to fully appreciate Bai-style traditional architectural courtyards, taste their fragrant Three-Course Tea and explore their distinctive culture. Move on to visit the Shaping Bazaar happened every Monday in Shangguan Town. Shaping market is ratified by the government of Yunnan province to trade cultural relics inferior to the third class. Multitudinous curios, jade article, embroider are sold there, alluring many tourists around the country and abroad. Therefore, it got the reputation of “the foreigners’ street”.
